Q.
Is listing a property for sale on getagrip.co.uk really free?
A.
Yes! We are not Estate Agents, and we charge no fee. You must be legally entitled to list the property as 'For Sale', and England & Wales legislation requires that in order to list your home For Sale, you must have  a Home Information Pack (HIP); for properties in Scotland you'll need a Home Report. There is a charge for acquiring a HIP, and you must obtain this in PDF format in order to upload it to getagrip.co.uk. We recommend www.wowhips.co.uk, but there are many other providers.

Q
So, I can sell my house using getagrip.co.uk, without using an Estate Agent?

Yes. The law does not require that an Estate Agent or any other professional gets involved in any part of the process prior to accepting an offer, except for possessing a HIP (see above). You'll usually use a solicitor once you've accepted an offer, and they will carry out the necessary legal work.

Q
What is a HIP? And an EPC? And a Home Report if my property is in Scotland?
A
Home Information Packs (HIPs) are required for all homes in England & Wales. The exception is properties that were on the market before HIPs were introduced and this date differs according to the number of bedrooms: 4 bedroom homes 01/08/2007; 3 bedroom homes 10/09/2007; 1 and 2 bedroom homes 14/12/2007.

As of 1st October 2008, all properties advertised for sale must also have an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate), which is usually included automatically in a HIP, but a separate EPC can be ordered if a property is exempt from HIPS.

You need a Home Information Pack (HIP) in order to list your property on getagrip.co.uk, and it must be uploaded in PDF format. Please follow the following link to the www.wowhips.co.uk web site which tells you all you need to know about HIPs.

Home Report for Scottish homes:
As of 1st December 2008, Scottish houses marketed for sale need a Home Report, consisting of a pack of three documents: a Single Survey, an Energy Report and a Property Questionnaire. The Home Report is be made available on request to prospective buyers of the home. Visit the official Government site here: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/topics/Built-Environment/Housing/Buyingselling/home-report

Q
I'm already using an Estate Agent...

Whilst advertising your home online with getagrip.co.uk may not affect the contract you are in with an Estate Agent, you should review the terms and conditions to make sure. If you've appointed a 'Sole Agent', this does not necessarily mean that you can't sell your property privately, but it is possible there may be a clause demanding payment of commission to the Agent however the house is sold.

Q
Should I tell my Estate Agent I'm advertising my property on getagrip.co.uk?

They will most likely have more incentive to market your property more aggressively if they realise they have competition. In addition, you'll be sure to understand the terms of commission of your current, and any future, agreements should you inform them of your online listing.

How do I update or change my details once I've created an account or added a property.

Simple. Just login by clicking the 'mygetagrip' link, using the email address and password you registered with, and you can change your details, and any details of the property there, including uploading additional photographs.

Q
Are my details safe?
A
We do NOT share customers' personal details with any other organisations. The data we require from you as a seller is necessary in order to verify that you are the owner of the property or entitled to sell it.

Q
How long can I list my property on getagrip.co.uk for?

There is no time limit.

What about preparing my house for sale?

You should always aim to make the best impression when buyers come to view - the property should be in the condition you'd expect as a purchaser. Viewing is one of the most important points after you have established the property for sale online.

Q
I've sold my property, how do I remove it from getagrip.co.uk?
Just login by clicking the 'mygetagrip' link, using the email address and password you registered with, and you can change your details, and any details of the property there, including removing from the site.

Q
Why is the location I entered not recognised by your search?
A
The most common cause of this is misspelling, or that a new post code has been created for properties not yet completed. Check that the place name or postcode you entered is spelled correctly. If you believe a location should be recognised and it is not, please let us know.

Q
What is getagrip.co.uk, and who are you?
A
We are a company intent on giving consumers control, of taking the hassle out of selling a property. We make our money by selling advertising, that's how we can offer a free service to you. For more information please visit the About Us page.
